If you are ever talking about someone behind there back (no!), and that person should enter the room, there’s always a few moments of uncomfortable silence as you try to think of something else to talk about. Should this happen, here’s a nice little tip to help you out.

Use the following phrase: “My code was overwriting the default Unicode directionality algorithm.” This can be preceded by phrases like “Turns out the problem was…” or, “It was a simple solution, as my…” The best thing about this line is that it easy to remember, and, unless you deal with character encoding, you most likely won’t know what it means. It sounds rather technical, though.

One Dead Ogre is Always Better Than 4 Wounded Ogres November 5, 2007

While playing almost any RPG, you’ll quickly learn that the best way to survive random encounters is to stick to the above rule. The reason? Most games do not penalize the enemies for having low HP. So, if you spread your attacks around, you’ll still be getting hit 4 times, no matter how low the enemies’ HP are. However, if you focus your attacks on one enemy at a time, you will lower the amount of attacks by one each time an enemy falls.

There are certain people who have a knack for teaching, and they can make the most complicated subjects seem very simple. However, there are others who have a knack for the exact opposite: they make certain, rather simple subjects seem extremely boring and complicated. But, at the same time, they are revered as very smart people. How can we become one of those persons? Here are some tips for those of you who wish to join this group.

Did you ever learn something that really shocked you? Something, that, as the title of this post implies, turned your world upside down (even if it was for only a few seconds)? No? How about hearing that Vader was Luke’s father? Or how about Gandalf coming back from the dead (seemingly)?

Following in the RogueLike-based posts, I thought I’d share my thoughts on one of the most popular games in the genre: NetHack. The game, like all other RL’s is based on the his game Rogue. Rogue spawned the variant Hack, which then spawned the game NetHack, which finally, spawned the improved version of NetHack, SLASH’EM.

Popular Ways to Repair Your Video Games, Systems, and Accesories January 29, 2007

Having trouble with your gaming-related equipment? Well, here’s a list of the most popular (but maybe not effective) ways remedy your problems.

1. If your game CD is not working, take it out and rub it on your shirt. It also helps to blow hot air on it to fog it up first.

2. If your game cartridge is not working, take it out and blow as hard as you can inside the cart.

3. If you have a CD based system that’s not reading games, open the disc tray and blow in the general direction of the laser eye.

4. If your controllers are acting up, take a toothbrush, wetten it a little, and brush the controller, not too hard, but not too soft either.

5. If you’re using a PS2, and a certain game won’t boot, press the Power/Reset button five times in rapid succession, and you’ll be set.

6. If you’re using a cart-based system, and a game won’t load, shove the game downwards as hard as you can.

7. If you’re interested in prolonging your controller’s life span, be gentle with the buttons, don’t throw the controller, or sqeeze it, and never, ever operate it with the bony parts of your face.

Well, there you have it. The answer to all of humanity’s problems in one small list. Although most of these (excluding number 5, of course, Thanks Edmond!) will help you immeadiately, they will probably harm your game/system in the long run, so I don’t recommend them. It’s nice to have a good laugh every once in a while, though.
