Any PC gamers out there over the age of 20 will most likely recognize this game. XCOM was a really revolutionary game, one that was way ahead of its time. The game puts you in the seat of the leader of the XCOM (Extraterrestrial Combat Unit) whose goal is to protect the world from the alien invasion. To achieve this goal, you have to maintain a base, shoot down enemy UFOs and do some research/manufacturing.

As you advance in the game, you have to build more bases around the world to cover more countries and do more missions. The goal of the game is to find the alien origin and head to that planet to defeat the alien threat once and for all.

The main screen displays the world, your bases, your craft and enemy UFOs. Once you commence a land mission (either to recover a downed UFO or to save a city from alien terrorists) you’re shown a bird’s eye view of the battle. This is the real joy of the game as you rush to destroy enemy aliens while keeping your squad safe and your units into cover to keep them away from enemy fire.

I love this game, although I haven’t beaten it yet, it really sucks you in once you start. Stick around for a review once I beat the game. (As a side note, Yay or Nay will only be every two weeks, as I have a hard time thinking of a topic every week)

Get on to XCOM? I don’t realy remember. I happened to run across the game on an abandonware site. Since that day I’ve gotten a new computer, and rather forgot about XCOM. Methinks it’s time to get it out again (and maybe beat it this time :)).
