Making the Leap…. Almost March 29, 2007

I’ve been thinking a certain subject over, and last night after browsing my newest Tips&Tricks, I had decided to sell my PS2, and… Buy a PSP. Yes, I, a Nintendo fanboy, was going to buy a PSP. I did some research this morning, and found some awesome games that I was going to get. Among those was Sid Meyer’s Pirates, Legend of Heroes, and Mega Man X: Maverick Hunter.

Besides those games, there were some more RPGs that looked interesting (Valkyrie Profile and Valhalla Knights), some F/TPS (Killzone, Rainbow Six), and some classic games (Mega Man: Powered Up, and Metal Slug Collection). I was really set on this decision, and somewhat excited on making myself a pure handheld gamer. Then, I decided to just do a quick price check.

Turns out the core system is $200. That’s just the system with no case, screen protectors, games, or even memory card. The games I want are somewhat cheap as they’re older, so that wasn’t a problem. But getting a memory card and the above accessories would cost me around 50 dollars more. Then, around $20-25 for each game, and that’s at least $60 more. That comes to a grand total of somewhere around $310. So, sadly, I’m not getting a PSP, as I could get a Wii for less than that, and if I traded in both my PS2 and my GC for one, I could get it for way off, leaving me more room for games.

So the final verdict? Way too expensive. I got my DS at almost launch for $150 with Mario Kart, a case, extra stylies, and some screen protectors. There’s no way I’m spending $300 on something. So, I’m back to my original plan of trading in my PS2/games for a few DS games and using the rest for my Gunpla.
