So maybe I exaggerated a little when I said I-Ninja was one of the greatest games of all time. It’s one of the best Platforming games in long time, definitely the best I’ve played on the GC. Enjoy the review.
Graphics: Although you won’t be blown away by realistic, no-difference-from-life graphics, you will notice how nice the graphics fit in with the game’s style. They’re nice, crisp anime-looking graphics, they’re not cel-shaded, but they look like they came straight from some OVA, or anime series. All in all, the graphics are really nice, and really help the game with its humorous mood.
Audio: There’s no famous composer working on this game, so the music is nice, but it never really sticks in your head once the game’s turned off. The music isn’t the game’s strong point. The voice acting, however, is beyond excellent, and the actors chosen were great choices. Although there’s only five or six, they all fit with their given bodies and personalities.
Gameplay: Gameplay is pretty straight forward: you normally just run through an area, killing enemy ninjas, solving (relatively easy) puzzles, and you then grab the Grade to finish the level. However, you can also return to a cleared area and claim even more grades by completeing side missions, like killing each and every enemy, collecting a certain number of red coins (a la Super Mario 64), or a number of other jobs.
Also, there are a number of other different missions like rolling a robot’s heart around the level, shooting incoming enemies from a huge cannon, racing enemies to the bomb while the fuse is burning away, etc. Bosses are all unique, and equally hard in their own way.
Play/Replay Value: I’ve played the game through three times, twice with 100%, and once without, and I’m still planning on getting through again. In fact, I might even write a 100% FAQ for it, who knows.
Rent or Buy: Buy. If you’re trying to get through 100%, then definitely buy the game, otherwise, you might be renting it a few times. It cheap enough, so go buy it, lazy bum.
Will I Buy The Sequel?: If there was an I-Ninja 2 (I’m thinking maybe a Wii game?), I would definitely get it. Please, make one… Please.
Next in line, Alter Echo, a fun, different look at action games.
